Departing CFO steps down immediately but stays to consult.
Dutch orthopedic device company Tornier N.V. has appointed Shawn T. McCormick its new chief financial officer (CFO). McCormick will assume the position on September 4, until which time President and CEO Doug Kohrs will serve as interim CFO. Departing Global CFO Carmen L. Diersen will serve as a consultant through July 16, 2013, but she will be stepping down immediately from her full CFO responsibilities due to personal reasons. “I am very pleased to welcome Shawn to our company and confident that his extensive financial expertise and knowledge of the health care industry will enable him to successfully lead our financial operations,” said Kohrs. “We thank Carmen for her exceptional service, contribution and dedication to the company and wish her well in her future endeavors.” McCormick brings 20 years of experience in the medical device industry to Tornier. He most recently served as chief operating officer of Lutonix Inc., a medical device company acquired by C. R. Bard Inc. Prior to that, McCormick served as senior vice president and CFO of ev3 Inc., a global medical device company acquired by Covidien plc. Prior to joining ev3, he served as vice president of corporate development at Medtronic Inc. McCormick joined Medtronic in July 1992 and held various finance and leadership positions during his tenure. McCormick began his career with the public accounting firm KPMG Peat Marwick. Tornier has its global headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and its U.S. headquarters are in Edina, Minn. The company focuses on surgical orthopedic devices for extremities such as the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot. Tornier serves the joint replacement, trauma, sports medicine, and biologic markets.
